Morphological Changes in Diabetic Foot

  Abstract Objective: Diabetic feet and toe deformities is commonly associated with diabetes mellitus and neuropathy is the causative factor combined with vasculopathy. In this study we list out various morphological changes which occur in Diabetic foot lesions, the pathophysiology and the management of the deformed toes and feet. Materials and Methods: A prospective study was carried out in patients presenting to the Diabetic Clinic at a tertiary care hospital in Delhi. 70 patients who were labelled as diabetics formed the study group. Results: The most common age group affected belonged to 51-60 age bracket which included 41 patients (58.5%). The male to female ratio was approximately 3:1. Majority of patients 32 (45.71%) had diabetes of >10 years duration. Brain Natriuretic Peptide Response to Six-minute Walk Test in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension

  Abstract Background: Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) levels increase in response to exercise in congestive heart failure patients. However, the timing, degree, and clinical consequences of exercise-related BNP elevation in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) remain unexplored. Materials and methods: A total of 38 consecutive PAH patients were enrolled in this study. BNP levels were drawn prior to, and 6, 14, 20, and 60 minutes following, the six-minute walk test. Subjects were divided based on BNP level cut off used in our laboratory: BNP ≤100pg/ml and BNP >100pg/ml. Time to Clinical Worsening (TTCW) was defined as a composite end point of death, transplant, prostacyclin initiation, or hospitalization for worsening PAH. Burden of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in India: Status, Practices and Prevention

  Abstract Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is affecting 251 million lives globally and it causes 3.15 million deaths per year More than 90% COPD-related deaths happen in low and middle-income countries. In India, three out of five leading causes of mortalities constitute non- communicable diseases whereas COPD is the second biggest cause of death. The prevalence of COPD has increased by 29.2% by 2016 which is a serious public health concern. The clinicians require treating COPD as per the evidence-based guidelines and managing the comorbidities. To avert the cost of care, an integrated and highly efficient system is required which can promote healthier lifestyle and self-management of the symptoms through a team-based approach comprising different healthcare professionals for delivering planned care.
